Established in 2026, The OG Learning Lab is a unique half-day/full-day program that provides academic instruction in a highly differentiated learning environment for students in grades 1–12.
The program is designed for students with attention deficit disorders or specific learning differences in reading, writing, and math who demonstrate average to above-average cognitive abilities. The Learning Lab offers a 1:1 student-to-practitioner ratio for Orton Gillingham reading instruction and a 3:1 student-to-faculty ratio for math and writing, allowing for targeted, individualized support. This structure enables faculty to help each student reach their full potential through direct, personalized instruction delivered daily in reading, writing, and math.
Highly trained practitioners continually adapt instruction to strengthen academic skills, develop executive functioning, and build self-confidence. The small-group setting promotes high engagement and strong relationships between faculty and students, fostering an environment where learners develop self-advocacy skills and take ownership of their education.
The Learning Lab partners with public, private, and homeschool communities each year to collaborate in supporting student success.
The Learning Lab is deeply committed to supporting children with learning differences and attention challenges. Our admissions process is thoughtfully designed to ensure that each student is a strong match for our academic focus and research-based instructional approaches.
The Learning Lab is best suited for students with:
• Learning disabilities such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, and dyscalculia
• Learning differences including ADHD, slow processing speed, weak working memory, and sensory processing challenges
• Strong cognitive abilities, as identified through intelligence testing (such as the WISC) and/or other professional evaluations
Students with intellectual disabilities, significant behavioral, conduct, or emotional challenges, nonverbal learning disabilities, or complex communication disorders are typically better served in programs specifically designed to address those needs. While The Learning Lab provides classroom-based social-emotional support, we are not equipped to offer intensive therapeutic services or extensive external interventions.
If you are unsure whether The Learning Lab is the right fit for your child, we encourage you to reach out to us at info@saybrookreading.com or complete your pre enrollment form today.
Understanding the Half-Day Model/Full Day Model
• Students in grades 1–8 attend The Learning Lab for three daily classes in reading, writing, and math.
• All students have the option to attend the PM classes for: lunch/recess, integrated science/social students and a quartely Encore class (specials).
• Students in grades 9–12 may attend for one, two, or three classes and may select from the following options: 1:1 Orton-Gillingham instruction, writing, or math. The Learning Lab’s high school classes are aligned with Connecticut state standards, allowing students to earn high school credit toward graduation.
Students attend either The Learning Lab for the morning (8:05 – 11:05 am) or afternoon (12:05 – 3:05 pm) session. Both sessions offer a 10-minute drop-off window before classes begin.
Students attending the full day, classes begin at 8:05 am to 3:05 pm.
On a typical day, students attend three 55-minute classes with a 15-minute break between the second and third classes.
An after-school 1:1 support is available for afternoon students on Monday – Thursday from 3:05-4:05 pm.
